Isaiah 20:1-6 1 In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it- 2 at that time the LORD spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot. 3 Then the LORD said, “Just as my servant Isaiah...

without ceasing
1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing One of the shortest verses in the Bible is one that convicts me, without ceasing…. This is one of those concepts that blows my mind.  Praying throughout the day, about every situation, about every problem.  My issue is not the praying, its not hard to pray… its the without ceasing.  I’m not one who has an issue praying when times are...

SMACK!
Isaiah 7:9b If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all. I was reading along in Isaiah, and this verse hit me in the face like a spiritual wrecking ball.  God is speaking through Isaiah to Ahaz, saying that if you stand firm in faith, knowing that I am stronger than the Assyrians - stronger than any army, then you will be firm.  But… if you are not firm in faith, you will not...

Here I am...
Isaiah 6:8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” Being as Isaiah is my namesake, I do like to read through Isaiah often.  I suppose that could be viewed as narcissistic, but since I hope to be half the man of God that Isaiah was, maybe not.  I pray that my life show the meaning of my name, “The Lord is...

An Update
It appears to have been quite a while since I posted… I have been blogging, especially during Choir Tour, but not here.  Since Choir Tour finished, Sara and I have been working on closing on a house here in Scottsbluff.  People talk about stress during buying a house, but no description really tells all that you will feel in worry, doubt, joy, and frustration. That all being said, we are...

SCC - World Mission Crusade
March 27th-29th - Grand Junction, CO / Parachute, CO As we left Nebraska behind, we had no idea if we could even make it to Grand Junction.  I25 from Cheyenne, WY to Wellington, CO was still closed as we left, and several areas of I70 were “restricted” and requiring chains.  Despite this knowledge, we had to try, so we were off… We arrived in Cheyenne, stopping at Burger King...

SCC - Big Sky Youth Rally
March 20th-22nd Dave Robinson, Kenny Pester and I drive down the interstate on our way to Lewistown Montana, telling stories, but mostly Kenny and I listen to Dave tell stories about his driving escapades. We arrive in Lewistown to find out we’ll be doing a 15 minute talk on the college and Dave and I each are going to be doing a Workshop - sweet! Sharla Steele met us at Lewistown and the...

SCC - Norton/Concordia Kansas
On March 14th, Kyle, Kaylin, Julie, Val and I traveled to Norton Kansas to visit the Norton Christian Church and the youth minister, Mike Sander. Sunday morning, I was able to teach a lesson titled, “Who is God?” that dealt with how we view God, and comparing Him to ourselves.  Each student wrote down aspects of themselves and then compared them to the description of God in Isaiah...

Praise
Psalm 113 1 Praise the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD! 2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and forevermore! 3 From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised! 4 The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! 5 Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high, 6 who looks far down on the...

SCC - Visiting the Bayard Youth
Last Wednesday I traveled to Bayard, Nebraska to visit the youth of the Bayard Christian Church.  I was there to teach a lesson, share about the college and hurt Chris, er… I mean to lead some games. The best part about visiting Bayard was sharing stories from our time at SCC.  Chris, the Youth Minister, was my roommate in college.  I was able to share my story, of how Chris helped me get...

Generosity
I was reading through the story of the Israelites as they built the Tabernacle in Exodus, and I came upon this passage. Exodus 35:2-7 2 Then Moses summoned Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the LORD had given ability and who was willing to come and do the work. 3 They received from Moses all the offerings the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the...

Frustrating!
What a day!  Wow… since lunch where I began spilling everything all over myself it has been a rough day.  I’m not going to relate here all that happened because that would be petty, unprofessional and definitely not Christ-like.  Lets just say it was a frustrating day… Then I read this: Isaiah 40:28, 29 (ESV) 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the...

Mondays
Today was Monday… I usually loathe Mondays.  They are my least favorite day, least creative day, and the hardest day for me to get up.  This morning that was compounded on by a massive headache that has slowly disappeared as the day has gone by. Now that I’ve gone on a rant about Mondays, I want to figure out how I can change my perception about Monday.  Today I started realizing that...

SCC - visiting the Alliance youth
This evening I departed for Alliance to visit Gabriel Tyce Bruton and his youth group at the Alliance Christian Church.  I left Scottsbluff, confident of the route to the church, and excited for the opportunity to speak.  Upon entering Alliance, I realized that though I knew the address, I didn’t know where this certain street was in Alliance.  I texted Gabe, swallowing my pride, and found...

Re-design
You may notice the redesign of my blog, if only to note the new ability to comment thanks to Disqus.  Mostly it is simply a different template, a change of the outer shell. One thing you’ll find about me is that I like to change things… that isn’t to say that I like change.  Change that I don’t control scares me, and I usually don’t like it. This got me thinking...

Monotony
Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, “Do it again”; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, “Do...

Forgiveness
Matthew 18:23-35 23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26 “The servant fell on his knees before...
